Nagaland to set up Regional Centre for Environmental Studies

Kohima: The Memorandum of Agreement for establishing the Regional Centre for Urban and Environment Studies (RCUES) for North East Region was signed between the Nagaland Government and the All India Institute of Local Self Government of India (AIILSG) on Monday.

According to a press note issued by Ken Keditsu, Director Urban Development here today the RCUES is an institution for imparting training and capacity building of urban local bodies and such as Municipalities and Town Councils for improvement in Urban Governance sponsored by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

So far, there is no dedicated RCUES centre in the whole of the Northeast region. This new centre aspires to cater to the need of research and training for Northeastern region.

He informed that the formal launching of the centre shall take place very soon. Till such time permanent campus is established, the centre shall function at the Old Directorate Building of the Urban Development, below A.G Office.

He also described the signing of the MoA as most timely in the light of the department’s focus on Effective Urban Local Governance during the 12th Five Year Plan and hoped that the centre would leverage the effort of the department in the endeavour. ”As a result of sincere and concerted effort of the state government as well as the AIILSG, the Ministry finally agreed to establish the centre in Nagaland as a Centre for Excellence for training and capacity building to cater to the needs of the whole Northeast region,” the Director stated.
