Two killed, 33 injured in Kashmir

Baramulla: Two persons were killed and thirty three were injured when a bus met with an accident in north Kashmir on Wednesday. Official sources said a bus turned turtle and fell into a river at Fahtehgrah, about 12 km from here in this north Kashmir district resulting in injuries of thirty four persons. The rescue operation was immediately launched and the injured were shifted to hospital where one of them succumbed to his injuries. Later body of another person was recovered from the river, they said. (UNI)

Decapitated bodies of youths found

Nagercoil: The decapitated bodies of two youths were found on a railway track at Olaginaseri, near here, on Wednesday morning. According to railway police sources, the bodies, suspected to be those of youths in their early 20s, was found this morning with the heads lying outside the track. While one of the youths had Rs 1,300 in his pocket, the other had Rs 3,300. The bodies were sent to the government hospital at Asaripaleyam for post-mortem. Railway Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.Further investigations were on to ascertain the identity of the duo. (UNI)

Youth shot dead in state capital

Patna: Some armed criminals shot dead a youth near a petrol pump under Deedraganj police station in the state capital late on Tuesday night. Police said the incident took place over dispute on a minor issue. An FIR was lodged at the concerned police station. Raids were on to nab the criminals. In another incident, one Shivshanker Prasad(55) was crushed to death by a speeding truck on National Highway 30 under Deedraganj police station last night. The incident took place when he was returning to his home in an inebriated condition. (UNI)

Woman electrocuted in Siwan

Siwan: A woman was electrocuted at Gabhirar village under Raghunathpur police station here on Wednesday. Police said one Manki Devi (80) came in contact with a high voltage live electric wire and was charred alive early on Wednesday. The body was sent for postmortem, police added. (UNI)

Man beats wife to death

Purnea: A youth beath to death his wife at Tarbanna locality under Kehat police station here on Wednesday. According to police the incident took place following a minor scuffle between them. The body had been sent for postmortem. (UNI)

Leopard found dead

Bahraich (UP): The mutilated body of a male leopard was on Wednesday recovered from a field in Katarniyaghat wildlife sanctuary, a senior forest department official said here. “Body of a five to six-year-old male leopard was recovered from a sugarcane field near Lodhanpurwa village this morning and it might have been killed by a tiger,” divisional forest officer R K Singh said. He said there were canine marks of a tiger on the neck and skull of the leopard. A panel of three doctors will conduct the post mortem of the leopard, the DFO said. (PTI)

Drug and Control team raids ‘charitable’ nursing home in Jammu

Jammu: The sleuths of Drug and Control team on Wednesday raided a ‘charitable’ nursing home and seized the sample of medicines in this winter capital of the state. “A raid was conducted this morning by the team of Drug and Control led by Assistant Deputy Director Surinder Mohan Tickoo along with the Magistrate at Vishwa Dham owned by the leading businessman famous as ‘Vegetable Man’ Madan Lal Aggarwal,” police sources here told UNI. They said the team conducted surprise raids on receiving certain complaints of spurious medicines and charging fee from the patients in the name of charity. “The owner had closed the charitable trust few days ago but samples of various medicines and other records have been seized for the scrutiny,” sources added. The mater is being verified regarding medicines prescribed by Aggarwal, who also claimed himself as an ‘Ayurvedic specialist’ in treating the chronic diseases. (UNI)

Intensive drive launched against polluting vehicles

New Delhi: The Transport Department has launched an intensive drive against polluting vehicles in the city. “The Enforcement Wing under Transport Department has been keeping constant and close vigil on the vehicles in the capital,” an official statement said on Wednesday. The Enforcement Wing has deployed its entire work force to thoroughly check all vehicles for possession of a valid PUC Certificate and challan violators and visible polluting vehicles. “During the last fortnight total 8014 vehicles including 4,967 private cars and 1610 commercial vehicles were challaned resulting in collection of more than Rs 80,00,000 as fine,” the statement said. The maximum number of 549 private vehicles were challaned on July 14. The vehicle owners are advised to go for pollution under control check to get a certificate from Pollution Checking Centres across Delhi. The violators are being challaned with fine of Rs 1000 which is being collected on the spot. The second time violators will be slapped double fine. (UNI)
