Rejected lover kills teenager

Agartala: A jilted lover, accused of murdering a teenager in hostel of Panjiram Para HS School in South Tripura last night, was arrested on Wednesday. According to a report, Amendra Reang (19), a student of Class IX, had entered the girls’ hostel late last night and had assaulted one Basanti Reang (16) with a brick. Reang died on the spot. Police arrested Amendra soon after the incident. Preliminary investigation had revealed that Amendra’s proposal was turned down by Basanti a few days ago. (UNI)

International Red Cross Deputy Head visits Nagaland

Kohima: Deputy Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Yahai Alibi has paid a visit to the office of the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch here recently.

According to Nagaland Red Cross sources here today, during his interaction with Managing Committee (MC) members and staff of IRCS, Nagaland, Mr Yahai Alibi remarked that IRCS Nagaland was the most active state branch in the country and hoped that Red Cross in Nagaland will be a role model for other states in the country.

He also addressed a team of Nagaland police who were presently undergoing first-aid training in the Red Cross Complex.

General Secretary of IRCSN Zakie Kire and other MC members thanked Yahai Alibi for his continuous support and concern for Nagaland during his tenure in India as the deputy head of the ICRC.

Sources said that Yahai Alibi, who is from Tunisia, was on a courtesy visit to the state on completion of his tenure as the deputy head of delegation of ICRC in India.

He was accompanied by Diganta Bujabaruah, Cooperation Field Officer, ICRC of New Delhi. (UNI)

Police officer suspended for lathicharge on journalists

Agartala: A sub-inspector of police was suspended and officer-in-charge of East Agartala Police station was transferred with immediate effect for wielding baton on journalists in MBB College campus here, official sources said on Wednesday.

Eleven journalists were injured in the incident on July 10. Sources said, official order was issued by the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura district on Sunday adding that the sub-inspector of police Jehangir Hussain was suspended and officer-in-charge of East Police station Narayan Saha was transferred with immediate effect.

The mediapesons under the banner or Assembly of Journalists demanded suspension of the police officers. Teliamura police station OC Inspector Partha Sarathi Pal was shifted to East Agartala PS while Inspector Pranab Sengupta who was in crime branch was sent to Teliamura PS. (PTI)
