Shillong: In an embarrassment to the State Government, the Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court has found large-scale manipulations in the score sheets and the applications submitted by the candidates pertaining to the appointment of Assistant LP teachers in Jaintia Hills district.

The court on Thursday was hearing a series of writ petitions filed in this connection.

State Advocate General KS Kynjing, who was assisted by ND Shullai, however, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation over the glaring manipulation in the score sheets, citing the matter as mathematical error. Justice T Vaiphei, who was not satisfied with the explanation offered by Kynjing, directed the Government Counsel to produce all the relevant documents pertaining to the selection procedure, such as the score sheets and the applications submitted by the candidates, within August 17. The court also questioned whether the Government had, by any means, allowed for age relaxation in certain cases where the applicants were found to be well beyond the permissible age limit.
