Two drown in Kashmir
Srinagar: Two persons, including a teenager, drowned in the Kashmir valley, official sources said here this afternoon. They said a 15-year-old boy Nayeem Ahmad Mir was taking bath in river Jhelum at Gantamulla in Baramulla district when he drowned. A massive search operation has been launched to fish out the body, they said. Another person Rayees Ahmad Gillo drowned in river Sindh at Gund Rehman in Ganderbal district. His body was fished out at Shalbugh and later handed over to his relatives, they said. (UNI)
Arms smuggler arrested in UP
Sonbhadra (UP): An arms smugglers was arrested and carbine, pistols and several cartridges recovered from him in Chopan area here, police said on Thursday. Javed was arrested yesterday with 15 fire arms including a carbine, two nine mm pistols, five country made pistols, a .32 bore pistol and a number of cartridges, Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar said. During interrogation, he told police that he used to sell pistols not only in Uttar Pradesh but in Mumbai also. (PTI)
ASI commits suicide in police picket
Jamshedpur: An assistant sub inspector (ASI) of Jharkhand Police, deputed for joint anti-naxal operation along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Goilkera area of West Singhbhum district, committed suicide on Thursday, police said. Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Singh told UNI that ASI Naseem Ansari (45) committed suicide by hanging himself from the windowsill of his room in Auranga picket. The reason behind the suicide could not be immediately known. However, officer in-charge of Goilkera police station Yogendra Singh said Ansari was upset for quite some time. ”He was being treated by a neurologist of Ranchi for mental ailment and depression. This might have led to the suicide. His elder brother, also an ASI, had committed suicide last year in Jamshedpur,” Mr Singh said. (UNI)
50-year-old found dead
Hathras (UP): A 50-year-old man, who was allegedly abducted two days ago, was today found shot dead near Firozabad highway here, police said. G Kishore was abducted on July 26 night after which an FIR lodged in this matter, they said. The body of Kishore with a bullet wound was on Thursday recovered by the police and some persons detained for questioning in this connection. (PTI)
Police seized one crore of bitumen
Mathura: Police has arrested six people and seized bitumen worth Rs one crores by raiding transport company’s godown-office located in refinery area of the district on Thursday. Superitendent of police, Ram Kishore said raid was conducted in the godown and office of a transport company, one kilometer away from Mathura’s oil refinery. Besides, 14 sack of powder, which is used to increase the bitumen’s weight, two truck, one tanker, twenty one hundred drums filled with bitumen were seized. Owner of the transport company, Raju has escaped while three of the arrested are natives of Pilibhit district, he added. (UNI)
Godowns gutted in fire
Mangalore: Five godowns of reputed stores in an old building in the city were completely gutted in fire early on Thursday. Police said five fire tender services and Bunder Police team arrived at the spot to douse the fire and prevented it from spreading further. The fire fighters and police had a tough time in bringing the fire under control. They spent almost four hours in the dark tackling the blaze. The building, which had godowns of Liberty, wholesale dealers in stationery, cosmetics and general items, Panchalingeshwara Tyres, among others, was reduced to smoldering remains. The loss of goods in the godowns was expected to be worth Rs several lakh. (UNI)
5 CPI(Maoists) arrested in Gumla
Ranchi: Police have arrested five CPI(Maoist) cadres, including a self-styled area commander, from Kotam village in Gumla district. Police said the ultra left rebels had assembled to paste posters in Gumla and then move to Lohardaga and Simdega district. One among the ultras was identified as Dilip Oraon, the self-styled area commander involved in the Maoist attack in which nine police personnel were killed in 2001, sources said. Besides, Oraon was involved in a number of operations in the district, sources added. A bunch of posters were recovered from their possession. (UNI)
