London: Pop star Lady Gaga says Amy Winehouse’s death is a lesson for the public to not “kill the superstar”.

The 25-year-old singer spoke of her respect for the singer, who passed away under unexplained circumstances at her home in Camden, north London, on Saturday, reported Daily Mail.

“It’s really devastating and I think it’s a lesson to the world, don’t kill the superstar. Take care of her. Take care of her soul,” Gaga said.

The ‘Born This Way’ hitmaker also revealed she used to often get mistaken for Winehouse around the time her album ‘Back to Black’ released, because of the same hair colour.

“I was nobody when she was first coming out. I had really dark hair and all the time on the street people would go, ‘Amy!’ And they would go, ‘Back to Black.’ They’d scream at me.

“I loved her and I just remember feeling like I wasn’t alone because she was so different and she was so special,” Gaga said. Winehouse was cremated on Wednesday in a private Jewish ceremony in London attended by her family, including parents Mitch and Janis, brother Alex, boyfriend Reg Traviss, and a host of close friends such as producer Mark Ronson – who had worked with her on ‘Back to Black’ and Kelly Osbourne.
