Geetali, a socio cultural organization, elected SK Tiwari, former Chief Secretary, Meghalaya as Chief Patron in a recently held general body meeting of the organization for the term 2011-13. Other elected office bearers are Dr PS Chaudhury (President), ND Purkayastha and PS Dutta (both Vice President), Sudip Purkayastha (General Secretary), Bikash Kar (Secretary, Organization and Liaison), VL Dey (Cultural Secretary), PK Das (Social Secretary), Samir Dutta (Sports Secretary) and Subinoy Dey (Treasurer).

 Awards

The prizes for the annual Krishna Das Paul Choudhury Memorial Art Competition organized by Zenith Jubelieth Club, Laban on June 26 were distributed to the winners at a function held at the club on Saturday. As many as six group prizes were distributed with each group having three winners.

 CAG test

An NGO, Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement on Saturday tried to disrupt the conducting of written test of multi tasking (non-technical ) staff at CAG office here as there was no advertisement given informing the people about the vacancy in the state. The organisation also demanded first preference be given to the scheduled tribes of the state as the CAG office is in Shillong. It is learnt that more than one hundred and fifty candidates appeared for the written exam held here on Saturday.

 Condolence

A combined meeting of the Board of Trustees and Managing Committee of Matri Mandir, Polo Ground on Friday condoled the death of the President of the Matri Mandir BN Dutta on July 25.The members of the committee conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family. They also prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

 Computers

The St Anthony’s college Department of Business Administration in collaboration with Department of Computer Science on Saturday distributed two computers to the North East India Mission Association (NEIMA) Orphanage Home.
