Shillong: The State Police on Thursday claimed to have gathered strong evidence to prove the involvement of suspended Sub-Inspector SN Roy in the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl at a city hotel in March last.

“We have strong evidence to prove Roy’s involvement in the rape of the girl,” SP (City) M Kharkrang told reporters here on Thursday.

He said that police have established that the hotel room was booked under Roy’s name on the night on March 17 when the alleged crime had taken place.

“After completing the investigation, we would be able to establish the role of other people who have been arrested for the crime,” Kharkrang added. Following the gang rape police arrested four youths — Bobby Jyrwa Nongsiej, Johny Kshiar, Brando Nongrum and Angel Dulian (classmate of the victim) — alleged to have been involved in the crime. Roy, however, managed to give the police a slip.

It may be mentioned that Roy, who was absconding since April 13 after taking unauthorized “sick leave”, surrendered before the Court of Judicial Magistrate MB Challam on July 29.

A State Police team had even raided Roy’s ancestral house at Mahuana Ramray town in Vaishali district of Bihar but could not locate him.

Roy has already been suspended by the Police department.
