TURA: The West Garo Hills Bus Association has raised bus fares from August 8 in view of the recent hike in price of diesel, mobil oil as well as road tax.

The association held a joint meeting with Green Hills Travel Agency, Dura Travel Agency, Mini Bus Syndicate, Asanang City Bus Association, Tura City Bus Association and other travel agencies of the district where it was unanimously decided to increase the bus fare from the existing Rs.0.93 paise to Rs. 1.10 paise per km- an increase of Rs.0.17 paise per km.

The association said it was compelled to raise the fare since the bus owners were incurring a loss while running their vehicles.
