Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government for the first time has objected to the reported formation of a Naga political outfit in the state.

Days after denying the existence of any Naga political group in the state, state Home Minister Takar Marde yesterday said, “We object to the reported formation of Naga People’s Party in Arunachal.”

During a five-day tour of insurgency-hit districts of Tirap and Changlang between July 30 to August 3, the minister had categorically denied the existence of any Naga political outfit in the state, official said.

He had, however, said the government will oppose any attempt to set up such group in the state.

“People of Arunachal respect their brothers and sisters in Nagaland but will not accept any attempt to create a regional political party based on cultural affinity between the two states,” he had said. (PTI)
