Dimapur DC assures to curb extortion menace

Kohima: Newly-appointed Dimapur Deputy Commissioner (DC) N Hushili Sema has said her priorities were to curb extortion and illegal taxation menace and crimes against women.

Interacting with mediapersons on Monday at her office chamber, Ms Hushili said in a meeting with the district police it was decided that all accused arrested in extortion related case would be booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

She said administration and police have also decided to take up stronger measures to curb rampant extortion and taxation by various underground factions.

The DC disclosed that administration in coordination with police has been working on problem of taxation and already Superintendent of Police (SP) Dimapur Z Mero has instructed the police patrol party to be alert and nab the culprits involved in taxation.

The DC also appealed to all denizens to report whenever illegal taxation took place and help administration nab the culprit involved and solve the menace of taxation in the society.

Also, expressing concern over increasing rates of crimes against women and reports of minors being raped in Dimapur, Mrs Hushili said it was time now that people along with the police department play a positive role and help book the culprits involved and award exemplary punishment.

She also urged the Churches to come forward and speak about the prevailing social issues in the society and work towards solving them.

Ms Hushili, who recently took over as DC is from Nagaland Civil Service batch of 1981-82.

She has worked in the Women Development Department as secretary and was member secretary of the Nagaland State Women Commission. Hushili has also served as Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Residence Commissioner, Shillong and Managing Director of Nagaland Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation. (UNI)
