SHILLONG: In a case of thwarted love, a jealous lover tried to sever the throat of his 22 year-old girlfriend in the city here on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at around 8:40 am in front of the Police Reserve gate when Mohammad Rajibun Haque (23) who was having an affair with a girl of the area lay waiting for her at the gate and attacked his girlfriend from behind

The girl, a resident of police reserve came out of her home for work at around 8:40 am when the love-struck boy friend attacked her out of sheer jealousy which he had been nursing for months.

It is learnt that the girl, who works as a receptionist in the Knight Inn Hotel, was in a relationship with Rajibun, who is also her colleague, for the past three months.

Police stated that the couple had even agreed to enter into wedlock but suddenly one day, the girl asked Rajibun to give up his job at Knight Inn and he went back to Salikajhar village in Darrang District of Assam for another job.

After some time when Rajibun Haque returned from his home town he was shocked and shattered to know the girl had ditched him for someone else.

Further she stopped responding to the frantic calls of Rajibun thereby humiliating him.

He took the final step of harming her physically on Wednesday morning. The police, meanwhile, arrested Rajibun under section 307 which is attempt to murder and section 326 which is voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons. Police is still investigating into the matter to find out the other details of the crime.
