JOWAI: After almost three years of intra-village dispute between the Dorbar shnong of Mookyndeng and the Lamare family, of Madankynsaw village, both parties have reached a negotiated settlement with the Dorbar Shnong calling off the social boycott imposed on the family since 2009.
On March 9, 2009, a clash had erupted between the Dorbar Shnong and the Lamare family over a land dispute which started between the family members and a priest in charge of the Catholic Church in Mookyndeng (Madankynsaw).
As a result, the village Dorbar declared a social boycott on the entire family.
During the boycott, incidents such as pelting of stones and attacks on the members of Lamare family was reported following which, a case was registered against the Rangbah Shnong, Peter Synnah and village secretary, Thomas Dkhar as per CR Case No. 310 of 2009.
Philling Pala, head of Lamare family, also filed a writ petition with the Shillong Bench of the Guwahati High Court.
After more than three years, the dispute was settled at the chamber of Justice T. Vaiphei where both the village Dorbar and the affected family reached a negotiated settlement.
Both the parties also signed a compromise agreement on July 17 last. According to the agreement, the Dorbar Shnong imposed social boycott of the family was called off. It was also agreed that all criminal cases filed against the village chief and members by the family would be withdrawn within 15 days so that the agreement for settlement would be full and final.
Further, the release signed jointly by the Rangbah Shnong and Philling Pala agreed that the boundary partition wall adjacent to the village Catholic Church shall be constructed by the family at their own expense.
