TURA: The war of words between the ANVC and the GNLA appears to have compounded with each group making an attempt to raise the bar of criticism and prove their one upmanship.
Reacting to the recent statement of ANVC spokesperson Torik Jangning Marak who warned of an ‘all out war’ against it, the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) has said that it is ready to take on the ceasefire group if it so desires.
Senior GNLA representative Kakam D Shira, apparently authorised by ‘commander-in-chief’ Sohan D Shira to brief the media, spoke to representavies of several media houses to put his organisation’s points across.
“ANVC, especially Torik Jangning, has been taunting us for the last few months with threats of retaliation. We are ready to show our side of the story as far as his threats are concerned. Our boys are prepared,” warned Kakam Shira.
The GNLA leader questioned the ‘authenticity’ of Torik Jangning in the declaration of ‘war’ terming it as void.
“The power of war declaration does not lie with a spokesperson but with the entire cabinet or inner council of an organisation. Does he have the authority or endorsement of the ANVC ‘chairman’ and ‘commander-in-chief’?” questioned Kakam Shira.
The GNLA leader also went to lengths to highlight the functions of the Indian Government with regard to declaration of war. He claimed that as per the Constitution of India Para 18 contains the proclamation of emergency under Article 352- Sub Para 1 to 9, which gives a complete picture of the hierarchy through which the chain of command passes in the event of any hostility against the nation.
“Torik Jangning ought to be briefed on the issue of state and nation,” cautioned the GNLA leader.
