SHILLONG: KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) PN Syiem on Wednesday cancelled the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) granted earlier by the acting Syiem of Hima Mawsynram, Amos Sing Star Malngiang to the Hindu devotees to hold their rituals at Mawjymbuiñ cave, Mawsynram.

This decision was taken by the CEM following continuous pressure from the FKJGP, East Khasi Hills District Committee, which met the CEM at his office chamber here on Wednesday and expressed their disappointment over granting of the NOC by the acting Syiem of Mawsynram to the Hindu devotees to conduct their rituals at the cave without the knowledge of the concerned Dorbar Shnong.

Mawjymbuiñ cave is widely regarded as one of the tourist destinations in the State. “We are not against any religion in the State but conducting rituals here in this cave is not tolerated as it will not only affect the locals but also create pollution and unwanted waste in such a scenic tourist spot,” the FKJGP said, adding, the emergence of such rituals in the cave will definitely have an adverse effect on the beliefs and rituals held tight by the indigenous tribes till date.

The organisation also asked the KHADC to take away the authority bestowed upon Amos Sing Star Malngiang as the acting Syiem of Hima Mawsynram since he failed to respect the honour and beliefs of the indigenous tribes.
