Guwahati: Flood situation in Assam’s Dhemaji district remained unchanged as three more bodies, washed away by surging waters, were recovered on Wednesday.

Local reports said that the bodies were recovered from the Gainadi this morning and are believed to be those of the people who were washed away on August 15. Three more bodies were recovered from the same river earlier and another from a different river in Dhemaji, taking the toll to seven. State Water Resource minister Rajib Lochan Pegu today visited the flood-hit sites after arriving in Dhemaji last night.

He held meetings with the district administration and instructed that rescue and relief operations must be on in full swing.

Pegu also visited some relief camps and spoke to the inmates regarding their problems. The flood situation remained mostly unchanged in the district after heavy rains in bordering Arunachal Pradesh had led to flood waters inundating major part of the district since the past weekend.

Flood waters have over topped major portion of the NH 52 in Dhemaji district, cutting off the district from the rest of the country. (UNI)
