 JOWAI: A one-day district level workshop on Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Programme – a State’s Flagship Programme organized by Soil & Water Conservation Department and Meghalaya Basin Development Unit, Jaintia Hills District at Soil & Conservation Rest House, Jowai was held here on Wednesday.

Head of various government departments attended the workshop where Principal Secretary (Planing Etc), KS Kropha was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Kropha wished all officials keep in mind that the main objective of the program is to promote optimal and effective development utlising basin resources for ensuring livelihood security and inclusive growth within sustainable framework.

It may be mentioned here that the State Government (Planning Department) had issued a notification on June 17th 2011, for constituting Basin Development Units in each district where the District head will be the Chairman along with the members of all district heads.

Resources persons including, R.B.R Thabah, OSD (NRM) MBDA and Daniel J Ingty, OSD (LMG) MBDA has called for convergence with other Department in order to bring holistic development of the economy and livelihoods of the communities in particular for the underprivileged ones.
