Is ST going the TOI way?

Editor,

As an old and regular reader of your esteemed daily, when it was upgraded by a few pages recently, I felt very happy and elated that a two- page paper a decade ago has now come to this stature of giving its readers more to read, to know, to ponder and to chew.

I therefore, always eagerly look forward each morning to the arrival of my beloved paper and its “Front -Page News”, but I got a shock to see the latest edition of the ST i.e the 17th August 2011 issue. Is this the ‘SHILLONG TIMES’ which I used to be proud of? I could barely recognize it. Instead of the front page news, we as readers are given “NOODLETZ” to chew and gobble. Is this fair to the readers?

The “FRONT- PAGE” is sacrosanct and a hallowed ground to tread. We cannot compromise its invaluable nature to a mere advertisement of any form whatever the price. The paper looks cheap and can be classed as an ordinary illustrated daily. I do not grudge the advertisement but please not on the front page. Our hearts bleed!

 Yours etc.,

 LR Myrthong,

 Shillong-4
