 NONGSTOIN: Monsoon menace has continued to wreak havoc as heavy rains triggered landslides of Upper New Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills on Wednesday.

Luckily the members of two affected families had a close shave as they came out of their respective houses 5 minutes before the incident.

One Brigita Lyngdoh told The Shillong Times here on Thursday that the incident occurred at around 6pm.

Landslides accompanied by heavy rains deteriorated condition of the road to Langpih. As vehicles have stopped plying on this road people are forced to walk.

Drive against illegal settlers : With an aim to stop influx of non-tribals, the Ri Umsnam People Alliance (RUPA) will conduct a drive in collaboration with Nongstoin Police shortly.

Informing this here on Thursday, the RUPA president Starvid Kharbani said a delegation met Superintendent of Police in this regard and sought coopration in drive against illegal settlers.

The SP agreed to cooperate with the RUPA.
