Prohibition

The Dorbar Shnong, Umpling prohibits dumping of waste, soil on the road side leading to NEIGRIHMS and Nongrah from Umpling and any areas under the jurisdiction of Durbar Shnong Umpling. Any one found violating this would be subjected to punishment and penalty as per the rules and regulation of the Durbar Shnong.

Summer school

The Division of Agriculture Economics and Statistics, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam has organised a 21-day summer school on quantitative techniques in policy planning, monitoring, modelling, analysis and impact assessment of hill agriculture. Altogether 25 scientists from all over the country are participating in the summer school, which got under way on August 3. The valedictory function will be held on August 23 at the Complex’s premise. The Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Prof AN Rai will attend the function as the chief guest.

Sit and draw

The Meghalaya Hindu Mission, Lower Mawprem will organise a ‘sit and draw” competition to mark platinum jubilee of Janmashtami Utsav on the Mission premises on August 20 from 11am onwards. The Janmashtami Utsav Committee will also felicitate the past secretaries of the Committee of the Mission on August 21.

Health camp

The clinical Research Unit (Tribal) for Homoeopathy at Dhankheti under the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy, Department of AYUSH-Government of India will conduct a free health camp at Dorbar Hall, Umpling from 10am to 3pm on August 20.

Felicitation

The Saint Mary’s College will organise a felicitation programme for those students who have secured degree from the college on August 19 in the college auditorium at 2pm.

Cleaning drive

The Department of Social Work of Martin Luther Christian University will conduct a cleaning drive at Nongkhyriem and Nongthymmai on August 19. The cleaning drive will start at 10am from the campus. The drive will be followed by staging of a play by students of MSW 3rd Semester to create awareness on civic responsibility.

Corrigendum

The news item Purno Foundation announces ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each (ST, August 18) should have read as PA Sangma Foundation has sanctioned a sum of Rs 2 lakh for the entire relief and rescue operation in Garo Hills and not as published. The error is regretted.
