GUWAHATI: The relay hunger strike by ”India Against Corruption” entered its fourth day on Friday as people from different sections joined the protestors at Dighalipukhuri here on Friday.
Over 200 people visited the protest venue on Friday and expressed solidarity to the ongoing strike.
Several distinguished persons also visited the venue and discussions were held on the importance of a strong Lokpal and the loopholes in the government’s draft for the ombudsman Bill.
Students of Don Bosco School and Guwahati Commerce College, members of Durniti Nibaran Jana Mancha, CPI(ML), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Guwahati Byabasayi Santha, Railway Station Colony Basfor Samaj and Kalyan Ashram also gathered at the strike site and expressed their solidarity and support.
Students of Cotton College took out a candlelight march in the evening in support of the anti-corruption movement.
Aizawl: A rally was Friday organised in Mizoram in support of Anna Hazare’s movement where the participants underscored the need for ‘Jan Lokpal Bill’. People converged in front of the Millennium Centre, the largest shopping mall in the state capital, with speakers having proclaimed their support to the cause.
“All the people, including those holding highest public offices, should be within the ambit of the Lokpal,” former IPS officer F. Lalremsiama said.
Vanlalruata, President of the anti-corruption watchdog – the People’s Right to Information and Development Implementing Society of Mizoram (PRISM), said “we would hold a consultation meeting with other anti-corruption activist groups in Aizawl tomorrow to deliberate on our future course of action.” Friday’s rally was organised by 11 anti-corruption bodies including PRISM, Society for Social Action (SOSA) and youth groups from across the state.
Kohima: The Coordination Committee of Civil Society, Dimapur, has called for a candlelight procession in Dimapur on Friday night in support of Anna Hazare.
The Coordination Committee has appealed to citizens as well as all organizations of Dimapur to participate in the procession in support of Anna Hazare and his Jan Lokpal Bill, a press note from the president Co-Ordination Committee.
Meanwhile, the BJP’s Mahila Morcha on Thursday staged a protest against the arrest of Anna Hazare by Delhi police on Tuesday.
Interacting with media persons, national vice-president BJP Mahila Morcha Sardha Devi said Anna’s arrest was ‘illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional’. (Agencies)
