Awareness campaign on drugs

 SHILLONG: Vice chairperson of Meghalaya State Law Commission, Fenela Nonglait has lamented the country’s lack of executing the stringent laws abiding narcotics and drugs since drug abuse and consumption is on the rise with each passing day.

Delivering her speech at an awareness campaign on the topic “Drug abuse, substance misuse and stigmatization of HIV/AIDS” at Lumkshaid Lower Mawprem Community hall here on Saturday, Fenela spoke on the the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act 1985, calling it a stringent law.

Nonglait called upon the youth to stay away from harmful substances.

The inaugural session was followed by a technical session whereby lectures and awareness on topics relating to HIV/AIDS, Stigma and Discrimination and how law can help drug addicts and people living with HIV/AIDS were delivered.
