Woman ‘storms’ into Chandy’s room with kids

Aluva: Police and personal staff of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy were taken by surprise when a woman with her two children tried to storm into the room where Chandy was taking breakfast at the Government Guest House on Saturday.

Malathy with her two children met the Chief Minister to seek his help for her children.

He heard her grievances and she left the room by 0730 hrs after which he took breakfast.

She waited some time outside the room reportedly for the reply of the Chief Minister

However, she turned violent when the personal staff of the Chief Minister prevented her from meeting him again. She and her children reportedly stormed into the room shouting at the staff. The Chief Minister immediately got out of the room and the police swung into action. But Mr Chandy instructed the police not to take action against her. (UNI)

12 feared killed in road accident

Jammu: About 12 people feared killed when a bus, they were travelling in, met with an accident in bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here said. “The bus which was on way towards Poonch, skidded off the road and met with an accident this afternoon near Shindhara village 12 km short of Poonch,” sources here told UNI. They said on receiving information, police, security forces and locals rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation. “About 12 passengers are reportedly killed in the incident while the injured were being shifted to the district hospital,” they said adding that the rescue operation was in progress and more details are awaited. 6 killed as bus overturns on NH 34

Krishnanagar: Altogether six people were killed and 15 injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned on National Highway 34 at Bikrampur under Nakasipara police station in Nadia district on Saturday. Police said the Behrampur-bound private bus turned turtle when the driver suddenly applied brakes while giving pass to a mini-truck coming from the opposite direction. The victims died on the spot, while the injured were admitted to the Shaktinagar District Hospital, police said. Further details were awaited. (UNI)

Jilted lover kills partner’s kin

Bijnor(UP): A woman jilted by her lover took revenge from him by killing his six-year-old brother in Hazratnagar colony under Nurpur police station, police said here on Saturday. Armaan was missing since Thursday. Reshma, who lived as a tenant in the house was suspected by the family. Upon inquiry she said that she had an affair with Armaan’s elder brother Usmaan. However, when Usmaan refused to marry her, she took revenge by killing his younger brother, they said. She along with her accomplice Gulistan lured Armaan to the nearby sugarcane fields and strangled him to death, they added. His body has been recovered by the police. (PTI)

Three persons killed in Gumla

Gumla (Jharkhand): Two persons were lynched by locals at Pusho Bazar in Gumla district on Saturday after they had shot dead a cattle trader, police said here. Three armed men shot dead cattle trader Ali Hussain Ansari at Pusho Bazaar. Enraged over the incident, locals overpowered two of the assailants and beat them to death while another assailant managed to escape from the spot, they said. Business rivalry could be the motive behind the killing of Ansari, they added. (PTI)

Oman nationals arrested in Pune

Pune: Two Oman nationals were arrested for using fake Indian currency at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in the city, police said on Saturday. Police recovered from them 121 fake currency notes of face value of Rs 1,000, Rs 500 and Rs 100 denomination, along with a laptop and a printer. The suspects have been identified as Khalifa Ali Mohammed Al Fajari (22) and Khamair Ali Mohammed AL Fajari (31). Police said the duo had come to India on a tourist Visa had had checked into the hotel on August 16. While checking out last evening, they paid a bill of Rs 7,500 at the cash counter that included seven notes of Rs 1,000 denomination and one of Rs 500. The duo then asked the staff to keep their belongings including a colour printer, laptop and bag, safely for sometime at the hotel. They told the hotel staff that they were going out and would return later to take their belongings. (UNI)

One electrocuted, two injured

Siddharth Nagar (UP): One person was electrocuted and two others were injured when an electricity wire fell on them, police said here on Saturday. Jaish Mohammad was killed and a mother-daughter duo were seriously injured after they came into contact with live electricity wire lying on the road yesterday, they said. Police said that the injured have been admitted to the medical college. (PTI)

Dalit girl raped

Muzaffarnagar: A minor Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a farmer when she had gone to his fields in Madhor village under Shahpur police station in the district, police said here on Saturday. “The girl (14) had gone to the fields which belonged to the accused Surender (35). The accused took her to the nearby sugarcane fields and raped her, they said. While Surender has been arrested, the victim has been sent for medical examination. Later, some members of the Dalit community gheraoed the police station and expressed anger at the incident, police said. In yet another incident in the district, body of a 23-year-old girl was found near Hindun river in Budhana town here, police said. The unidentified body has been sent for postmortem. Police suspect it to be a case of honour killing. (PTI)

85-year-old shot dead by sons

Muzaffarnagar: A 85-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by his son and grand sons over a land dispute at Kharpod village in the district, police said on Saturday. Hukum Singh was shot dead by his elder son Bhopal (55) and grand sons yesterday over the land dispute, they said. The accused are absconding and investigations in the matter are on, police added. In another case in the district, a truck driver was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Titro – Kuchighari road on Friday night. The driver was on his way from Puna to Haridwar when he resisted an attempt to loot his truck loaded with batteries. The unidentified assailants shot at him and fled from the spot. Police is investigating the matter. (PTI)
