NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesaday told the Supreme court that though it has completed the investigation in 2G scam, it would require some more time to file the third charge sheet (the second supplementary charge sheet).

Appearing for the agency, senior counsel K.K.Venugopal told a bench of Justice G.S.Singhvi and Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly that the investigating agency would require two more weeks to file its second supplementary charge sheet and it would do so by the middle of September.

The CBI, in the course of the last hearing of the matter on July 6, 2011, had sought time till Aug 31 to file the second supplementary charge sheet.

Meanwhile, the court Wednesday directed the CBI, Directorate of Enforcement and the Income Tax authorities to file status report on their investigations and the steps taken by them in the 2G scam case.

The court directed that the status reports be filed by Sep 1 when the matter would come up for hearing.

Earlier, in the course of the hearing, counsel Pranav Sachdev, appearing for the petitioner Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), told the court that the CBI, ED and the Income Tax authorities were to file the status report prior to the filing of the second supplementary charge sheet.

He pleaded for the directions of the court to that effect. (IANS)
