SHILLONG: The Poor People Leader Organisation (PPLO) of Jaintia Hill has urged the State Government to take action against those trucks which violate the prohibitory orders clamped to keep a check on overloading of coal.

In a statement the organisation said, the prescribed limit is 9 tons (per truck) and the truckers pay the challan money as per the rate fixed by the government against the prescribed limit. “But in reality each truck carries more than 20 tons since there is no proper mechanism to check this,” the statement said.

“The government has been incurring a loss of not less than Rs 30 lakh per day,” said the president of PPLO in a statement.
