SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) manning the international border between India and Bangladesh have intensified security for the recently-inaugurated border haat at Kalaichar in West Garo Hills district.

Ravi Gandhi, PRO, BSF, on Friday said that security in and around the border haat has been stepped up and various steps have already been initiated to thwart any untoward incident. It is learnt that the BSF has tied up with the State Police and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) to ensure that each and every Bangladeshi national who enter the haat should return back to their country at the end of the day.

“Identity cards of each individual including shopkeepers and customers are being checked before being allowed entry into the haat,” Gandhi added.

Women police personnel have also been posted at the haat to keep a check on women customers and shopkeepers visiting the border haat, the PRO claimed.

“Besides, members of the Border Haat Management Committee are also present at the haat so that no unfortunate incident occurs,” Gandhi added while speaking to this scribe.

It may be reminded that the second border haat along the international border is set to be inaugurated at Balat in October.
