KOLKATA:Taking a dig at West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose for his remarks over the recovery of skeletons of Trinamool Congress supporters, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Sunday said her party will not indulge in “politics of vendetta”.
“We don’t want Bengal to be a museum of skeletons. Skeletons are tumbling out every day.
Still many people remain missing.
“In spite of this, we have not indulged in politics of vendetta. Our party supporters have not indulged in politics of revenge. The law will take its own course,” said Banerjee at the foundation day celebration of the students’ wing of the Trinamool Congress.
“Bengal will not be a museum of skeletons but a golden state.
The leader (Sushanta Ghosh) of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) aroused suspicion by going for anticipatory bail.
We never asked the police to arrest him,” Banerjee said.
Ghosh, now under judicial custody and lodged in the Midnapore central correctional home, was arrested Aug 11 after a West Midnapore court cancelled his anticipatory bail.
It is alleged that Ajay Acharya and some other members of the Trinamool Congress were attacked by armed people reportedly belonging to the CPI-M Sep 22, 2002.
Ghosh was one of the 40 people named in the first information report (FIR) filed after the incident. The FIR claimed seven Trinamool members were brutally killed.
DNA tests by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory here have confirmed Acharya’s identity and that of another missing Trinamool worker, Swapan Singha alias Raju Singha.
Earlier this month, Bose said the skeletons which have tumbled from various parts of West Midnapore were of those who died of chicken pox in the region.
“Look at their intelligence, they are saying that those skeletons are skeletons of those who have died of chicken pox.
Their (Bose) brains should be preserved.
We should create a museum to preserve their brains,” Banerjee said.
The police along with locals have recovered several human skeletons and bones in the state over the past several weeks.(IANS)
