16 HIV cases in four months in Mon district of Nagaland

Kohima: Altogether 16 HIV positive cases were detected in four months from April to August in Mon district of the state, District Programme Officer of Mon on Monday informed.

He said in all 11,722 people were found to be infected with HIV and AIDS in the state, out of which 91 people were from Mon.

Nagaland Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology, Wildlife and Excise M C Konyak called upon the people of Mon district of Nagaland to uphold the ethos of Christianity and moral values and do away with stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS.

Addressing as a Guest Speaker at a one day Advocacy Campaign on HIV and AIDS at Wakching on August 25, Konyak said as Christian brothers and sisters, it was everyone’s responsibility to love one another and render moral support, care and concern to people living with HIV and AIDS.

Pointing out that Churches and schools were the two institutions that impart moral values, he appealed to the pastors and teachers to play a vital role in creating awareness about HIV and AIDS in their respective Churches and schools. (UNI)
