SHILONG: After teaching and non-teaching staff of colleges, the Khasi Jaintia Higher Secondary Adhoc Teachers Association (KJHSATA) has now threatened to launch agitation in protest against the State Government’s failure to pay salary regularly.

Giving this indication here on Tuesday, the KJHSATA general secretary Richmond Kharlukhi said, “the teachers have not yet received their salary since March this year”.

The association has set September 2 deadline for the government to release salary. “If the Government fails to release the salary by September 2, the teachers will observe black flag day on September 5, a day which is marked the Teachers’ Day,” he said adding “there is no point celebrating Teachers’ Day if we don’t get our salary.”

The Association also stated that it had sent several letters to Education Minister RC Laloo for a discussion on the non-release of salary but the minister is yet to respond.
