Agartala: The central government has introduced a special allowance for the all-India services officers belonging to northeast cadres to improve their performance, an official said Wednesday.

“The union ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions has recently launched the ‘Special allowance for officers belonging to northeast cadres of all-India services’ to encourage the officials to work with more commitment,” a senior Tripura government official, who did not want to be named, told IANS.

The special allowance, payable to the officers belonging to northeast cadres of all-India services while they are actually working in the region, will be at the rate of 25 percent of their basic pay in addition to other allowances at present payable to them.

According to the official, several hundred all-India services officials — including of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS), as well as Indian Revenue Service (IRS) — have been working in the eight northeastern states under the Assam-Meghalaya, Manipur-Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh-Mizoram cadres.

“The young officers after joining in the all India services and while posted in the northeastern region become unenthusiastic after some years due to several reasons, including geographical isolation of many areas of the region,” the official said, adding that the central government has introduced the allowance to motivate them in their work.

“To expedite the governance and implementation of projects and schemes, personal involvement of all India services and local cadres officers are crucial,” the official added. (IANS)
