SHILLONG:Decrying the conflict situations in Garo Hills, the church leaders of Garo Hills under the umbrella of United Christian Peace Forum (UCPF) has appealed the state government to create a conducive situation for dialogue and negotiations with the conflicting groups.

“Peace and Harmony is vital for Integral Development of Garo Hills”, was the unanimous message of the 35 representative of Church leaders from Christian Churches of Garo Hills who gathered at the GBC Headquarters in Tura on Monday.

The forum appealed to the government to effectively deal with the issues not merely as law and order problem but strike at the root causes of such issues which may be traced back to corruption and deprivation.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the forum appealed both the ANVC and the GNLA to refrain from violence and speeches arousing unhealthy emotions which create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
