SHILLONG: Paper tendering will be a thing of the past. The State Government is intending to introduce the Electronic Tendering or e-Tendering system.

With the introduction of the e-Tendering system, no papers tender would be allowed.

All the contractors in the State in the near future will have to file their tenders on-line.

Once this eTendering process kicks off, Meghalaya will be the first state in the north east to introduce this online system for procurement and tendering.

It may be mentioned that the State Information and Technology department along with the National Informative Center (NIC) held a video demonstration at the Chief Secretary WMS Pariat’s office on the e-procurement and e-Tendering on Tuesday morning.

A senior government official told after the demonstration that introduction of e-procurement and e-tendering in the offices was part of the government’s commitment to ensure “transparency” and introduce “Green Technology” in the state.

Once the e-procurement and e-tendering is adopted, all government tenders and procurements of any items from business establishment will be done online. The government will scout for items that it needs to buy online and compare the prices and accordingly place the order.

“From now onwards all the government tendering will be online and even the purchase and order of different materials that are needed by the government will be done online.

This would help to ensure transparency and zero manipulation in the system,” a senior government official said.

He also believed that this will save a lot of time spent on the process of advertising, calling and then opening the tenders.

The same goes for e-procurement as the government will save time wasted in screening the papers and interviewing the prospective suppliers.

It will also help the state government in its journey of making its offices paperless as part of the “green technology.”
