SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the country, the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides also observed the centenary celebration of the Girl Guiding in India and the International Youth Year by organising a one-day Youth Fun and Raising Carnival in its premises here on Friday.

Jointly organised by the Indian Scouts and Guides Fellowship and Bharat Scouts and Guides, the carnival drew hundreds of students from various schools including college going students who enjoyed the items offered by the volunteers of the Scouts and Guides at various stalls from hand-made garments to music entertainment.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Assam Rifles Lt General Rameshwar Roy pointed out that the world still needs young dedicated students to invest their in-born talents into something they love and turn it into something beautiful and meaningful.

“The world has come a long way from the Stone Age to the Age of mobile phones and internet and this was achieved due to the visions and hard work of the young people of that time and I know that the stage is still wide open for new ideas and positive energies for the youth to invest and create something innovative”, added Lt Roy.

Moreover, the Assam Rifles also donated Rs 1 lakh to Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides for its better functioning and services to the young students.

The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides which was started in 1972 under the Chairmanship of the then Education Minister DD Pugh when the state became full-fledged today has a membership of around 13,586 scouts and guides in all the 7 districts of Meghalaya.

It has made tremendous progress in quality as well as in quantity.

Around 31 stalls were displayed at the carnival including food festival, jumble sale, music entertainment, housie and variety of games. The carnival was mainly participated by the scouts and guides from East Khasi Hills. The others present at the inaugural function included president of International Scout and Guide Fellowship (ISGF) GG Pariat, State Secretary of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, A Swer besides others.
