Agartala: Asserting that Tripura had achieved significant success in the literacy campaign, School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty has set another target- to make all-literate Tripura.
Tripura stood third with 87.75 percent in terms of literacy mission after Kerala and Mizorom, said Chakraborty while addressing a programme being organized to mark the International Literacy Day at Town Hall here on Thursday.
He said that the literacy rate has gone up to 87.75 percent in 2011 to 73.20 percent in 2001 while the difference of literacy between male and female has also reduced to 9 percent from 16 percent.
Terming the achievement as a great, the Minister said that the government would try its level best to make all-literate Tripura. Calling upon cooperation from all section of people, Chakraborty further said the government has been focusing on infrastructure development and expansion of education system. “The government plans not to leave any child from the purview of education system”, he said adding that teachers must perform their duties to fulfill the plans. Social Welfare Minster Bijita Nath, in her speech said the education and development are correlated with each other. “Overall development could not be achieved without development of human resource. There is need to educate all the citizens to ensure the speedy and evenhanded development”, she said.
Dy Speaker, in his speech mentioned the success in adult literacy drive. He said that around 98 percent students under the adult literacy drive had appeared in the final evaluation conducted in August.
