Five electrocuted in Karnataka

Hassan: Five workers, including a woman, were killed and 12 others injured when a potato-laden lorry, in which they were travelling, came into contact with a high tension wire at Nagatihalli in Arasikere Taluk of this district on Saturday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Narayana Rao said the lorry was coming to Hassan from Arasikere when the mishap occurred. The deceased were identified as Gowramma (32), lorry driver Rasool (55), Santosh (52), Nandish (30) and Kumar (26). The injured were admitted to hospital. (UNI)

Dalit woman’s suspicious death

Kakinada: The body of a woman was found in an irrigation channel in an agricultural field on the outskirts of B. Kothur village under Kirlampudi police station limits on Saturday. The police, who registered a case, identified the deceased as Vudatha Nagamani (45), a Dalit woman of Rajupalam hamlet of the B. Kothur village. Her husband gave a complaint to police last night that Nagamani, who went out to rear goats did not return in the evening. Based on the complaint a case was registered. But in the early hours today, her body was found in the irrigation channel under suspicious circumstances. police added. (UNI)

Man ends life in graveyard

Thane: A 32-old man from the city ended his life in a Muslim graveyard here, police said on Saturday. The victim Rafique Poojamani was a vagabond. Yesterday when he went to the Khoja Kabrastan in the heart of the city and cut his veins with the help of a blade and was found lying dead in a pool of blood. The police also found a suicide note besides his body in which he wrote that no one should be held responsible for his act of ending his life. Naupada police in the city has registered a case of accidental death and are probing the case. (UNI)

13-year-old hangs self

Mumbai: A 13-year-old school girl committed suicide at her residence at Kala chowkie in Lal Baugh, police said on Saturday. The deceased Sharvari Nagwekar lived with her parents, aunt and cousin at Abhyudaya Nagar, building no 31. She was alone at home when she hung herself last afternoon. A neighbour said her parents were not at home. Her aunt and cousin had also gone to the market. When they returned, they found her hanging fo the cilng fan. They immediately took her to KEM hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead. She was the only child and her parents can not understand why she took the extreme step. Police said investigation is on. the post-mortem report was awaited. (UNI)

16-year-old hacked to death

Ramanathapuram: Tension prevailed in Mandalamanickampacheri village near here after a 16-year-old school boy belonging to a dalit community was allegedly hacked to death by a gang at Kamuthi Kundatru area in this district, police said on Saturday. Police said T Palanikumar, a plus two student, was found seriously injured and unconscious after he was attacked by the gang with sickle yesterday. Though he was taken to hospital, he died. Another boy, Palani (10), who was along with Palanikumar, managed to escape from the place, police said. The gang members were absconding, police said. (PTI)

Firing at Dharavi kills one

Mumbai: Unidentified men shot dead a trader, in his mid-20s’, on Friday night at Dharavi in north Central Mumbai, police said. Dharavi police said at around 2115 hrs, the victim was fired upon on the 90 Feet Road in front of the Shamiana Hotel. Mohammed Nooruddin was declared dead on arrival at Sion Hospital. No arrests have been made so far, police said adding the number of hitmen and their identity is unclear. Nooruddin was a local trader in scrap material in Dharavi. Motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained. (UNI)

Maoists slit throat of two villagers

Koraput (Orissa): Suspected Maoists slit the throat of two villagers for being police informers at Bagri village in Koraput district, police said here on Saturday. The bodies of the two slain villagers were found near the village today, Laxmipur DSP Y Jagannath Rao said. The victims identified as Sankar Rao Mandangi (30) of Langarabeda village and Santosh Kumar Patnala (30) were abducted by the ultras on Thursday. While Mandangi was a farmer, Patnala a goldsmith. As per preliminary investigation, the rebels killed the duo suspecting them as police informers, police said. (PTI)

3 killed, 8 injured in road mishaps

Srinagar: Three persons were killed and eight others were injured in different road accidents in the Kashmir valley overnight. Official sources here on Saturday afternoon said one person Hakumat Singh was critically injured when a vehicle in which he was travelling collided with another vehicle at Kanispora crossing in Baramulla. The injured was immediately rushed to hospital where he died, they said adding police has registered a case. A load carrier on the way to Badgam from Khansahib overturned at Kremshore in the central Kashmir resulting in on the spot death of one Abdul Rashid Mir. Another load carrier hit a motorcyclist at Peth Dialgam in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. The motorcyclist Towseef Ahmad and his pillion mate Rajni, a resident of Punjab were critically wounded. The injured were rushed to district hospital from where they were referred to SMHS hospital, they said Towseef was declared brought dead. (UNI)
