Rare species of Flying Lizard snared in Kohima

Kohima: A local man in Kohima district has claimed to have found a rare species ”Flying Lizard” at Kidima village near Kohima.

According to the trapper of the rare species Thoneil Rikha, the Flying Dragon Lizard found at Kidima village was now being rear by him. He said the lizard has a peculiar ”cross” at the base joint of its tail and aft legs.

Flying Lizard or Flying Dragons or scientifically called the Draco Volans are rated the 10th most Weirdest and Bizarre Reptiles in the world. They are presently found in few Southeast Asia countries like Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia including Phillipine.

These Dragons are brown with bluish coloration with a yellow colored dewlap (Belly). The length of the lizard species can get to about 20 cm long. Its wingspan is usually 3 to 4 cm each and can glide up to 60 meters distance. Their heads are blunted and fairly short, and each leg has five clawed toes.

They have flaps of skin along the ribs, which can be extended into ”wings” by the lizard elongating its ribs. (UNI)
