‘Adopt scientific approach for dealing with mentally-ill’

AIZAWL: Mizoram chief minister Lal Thanhawla today appealed to the people of the state to adopt a scientific approach in dealing with people having mental illness and consult psychiatrists for their cure.

Speaking at a function organised by the Aizawl-based Volunteers for Community Mental Health (VOLCOMH) on the occasion of the World Mental Health Day, Lal Thanhawla said that the primitive way of dealing with mentally ill by the Mizos where they chained the patients should be replaced by treatment with care and love and scientific approach. He said that the efforts made by the government would not be sufficient. Active participation of the churches and NGOs was required to create better mental health among the people. (PTI)

 Assam Rifles top gun in Aizawl

AIZAWL:Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, director general Assam Rifles is on a three-day visit to Mizoram to review the security situation in the state which borders Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The director general, who arrived here Sunday, will be interacting with the chief minister and will be visiting the new Assam Rifles location at Zokhasang.

”He will review the security situation of the state and the arrangements for border guarding in light of its geostrategic importance with the Headquarters Mizoram Range Assam Rifles,” a source from the para-military force said.(UNI)

 Boy dies after attack by bees

AIZAWL:An 11-year-old boy was killed after he was attacked by a swarm of bees in a jungle near Lungmuat village in north Mizoram on Saturday, delayed police reports reaching here on Monday said.

The reports said that Lalhmunmawia’s friends threw stones at a beehive and the bees attacked him as he stood nearest to the tree housing the beehive.

He died on the spot and was accorded a funeral at Lungmuat village yesterday.

At least three persons have been killed in Mizoram after being attacked by bees during this year. (PTI)
