Three die, 8 injured in road mishaps in city

 SHILLONG: Three persons died on the spot while two others sustained major injuries when a private Maruti Van (ML04 A 9938) they were travelling in had a head on collision with a truck (AS01 DC 4191) at Sohryngkham Mawdikhar on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Manbha Rupon (27) and Shemphang Sumer (50) from Nongthlieh, Jaintia Hills while the identity of the third person is still unknown.

The injured persons were identified as Aibor Sukhlein (31) and Evening Rupon.

When contacted, police said the truck on its way to Shillong from Jowai was over speeding and directly hit the Maruti Van on its way to Jowai from Shillong. The truck driver managed to escape from the scene and the truck was later seized by the police.

The injured persons were later shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital.

In another accident case, six people were injured when their Sumo had a head on collision with a truck at Umsning, Ri Bhoi at around 12pm on Sunday.

The injured persons were identified as Tiwar Ali (30) from Assam, Sanjay Paul (17) from Forth Furlong near NEEPCO, Ayan Deb from Mawprem, Dheren Chettri (35) from Upper Mawrprem, Aman Paul (40) from Fourth Furlong and Jadar Das (25) from Assam.

The injured persons were later shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital.

In another case of suicide, one Rajiv Sunar (around 23 years of age), resident of Barapathar near Buddha Mandir committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence here on Sunday afternoon.
