CPC memo to Home Minister

SHILLONG: The Central Puja Committee (CPC) has submitted a memorandum to Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh urging him to take necessary actions to ensure that the culprits are apprehended immediately and exemplary punishment is meted to them. “Such incidents should be dealt with firmly to maintain the existing communal harmony existing in the state with active support of the Government of Meghalaya,” the memorandum read. Lyngdoh informed that CPC delegation that he had taken up the matter with his Assam counterpart and assured the delegation that he would ensure such incidents do not recur.

The CPC requested the minister to institute a judicial/magisterial inquiry into the matter so that the motive behind the gruesome incident is revealed. The CPC also urged the Home Minister to pay adequate compensation to the family of the victim.

Meanwhile, the CPC on Tuesday, while clarifying that there is no such institution as CPC, Shillong, said CPC is for the whole of Meghalaya. They also denied issuing any statement as reported in a section of the press.
