Woman gives birth after running marathon

Chicago: Amber Miller says she felt contractions minutes after crossing the Chicago Marathon finish line.

A few hours after completing the 42-kilometer race Sunday, the suburban Chicago woman gave birth to her daughter, June.

The 27-year-old is an experienced marathoner who found out she was pregnant after signing up for the race months ago.

She figured she’d play it by ear on whether or not she’d run.

Miller was nearly 39 weeks pregnant by Sunday. She got clearance from her doctor to half run and half walk the race. She finished in 6 hours and 25 minutes, much slower than her previous seven marathons.

Miller spoke to The Associated Press from the hospital and says she received encouraging cheers during the race and never felt bad, except for some feet blisters. (AP)

Sunken ship of silver discovered

Tampa (Florida): A Florida deep-sea exploration company with a record of finding sunken treasure has discovered a ship filled with silver 8,000 feet beneath the North Atlantic Ocean, the firm said.

Odyssey Marine Exploration Inc said on Monday it found the remains of the SS Mantola, which sank on Feb 9 1917, after being torpedoed by a German submarine during World War I.

The ship was insured to carry silver worth 110,000 British pounds when it sailed in 1917. That value would mean it could hold as much as 600,000 ounces of silver or nearly 19 tons based on silver prices at the time.

Odyssey will retain 80 per cent of the value of the silver that’s recovered. At current market prices, that much silver would be worth more than USD 19 million.

The shipwreck is about 160 kilometers away from an earlier one found by Odyssey. The SS Gairsoppa sank in 1941 carrying a reported cargo of up to 7 million ounces of silver. (AP)

World’s most expensive pudding for 22K pounds

London: A restaurant in UK has launched what is thought to be the world’s most expensive pudding for 22,000 pounds.

Styled like a Faberge Easter egg, the chocolate concoction is believed to have battered all previous records with its lavish list of ingredients, which include gold, champagne caviar and a two-carat diamond.

The pudding is made with four different types of the finest Belgian chocolate flavoured with a combination of peach, orange and whiskey.

It is layered with champagne jelly and a light biscuit joconde and glazed with edible gold leaf.

Marc Guibert, head chef at Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Windermere, Cumbria, created the record pudding, which is being launched for National Chocolate Week.

“Marc has used all of his culinary talents to whip up a truly incredible concoction of chocolate, champagne and gold leaf, all topped off with a diamond,” the Daily Mail quoted Stephen Broughton, managing director of Lindeth Howe, as saying.

“It looks spectacular and has a price tag to match!” he stated.

At 22,000 pounds, the dessert easily breaks the world record currently held by New York’s Serendipity 3 Restaurant, which was selling its Frrrozen Haute Chocolate last year for a cool 15,730 pounds. (ANI)
