World Sight Day Observed
World Sight Day was observed by the District Blindness Control Society, East Khasi Hills on Thursday in the Eye OPD Complex of the Civil Hospital Shillong. Dr.(Mrs)W.Laloo, Sr.M&HO & Member Secretary, DBCS East Khasi Hills, hightlighted the gathering on how to take care of the eyes at different ages and also the importance of eyes. On the day, reading glasses, glasses for school children were distributed freely by the Society.
Cultural prog
The Yogamaya Ashram of Laban will organise a number of cultural competitions from October 16 to 23 on the occasion of Kali Puja on the Ashram premises. The programmes include children’s competitions besides other musical and cultural events.
Workshop
The Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal will organise a one-day regional consultative workshop for JFK with a stronger focus on the conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants at the conference room of Sylvan House on October 21.
Fashion show
Kibru will organise the rooftop fashion show which is the first of its kind in the north east at Landmark Hotel, Nongrim at 6pm on October 15.
Poll rolls
The electoral rolls of 32 Nongstoin (ST), 33-Rambrai-Jyrngam (ST) and 34-Mawshynrut (ST) Assembly constituencies are available for inspection in the office of the respective Electoral Registration Officer and at designated locations during office hours. The qualifying date for preparation of the electoral roll is January 1, 2012. Any claims for inclusion of names in the roll or any objection to the particulars in any entry should be lodged on or before November 1 in form 6, 7, 8 or 8A.
Science meet
The state-level congress of the 19th National Children’s Science Congress will be held at Shillong on November 3 and the district-level meets will be held in the respective district headquarters before October 31. Participating children should submit the details of their projects to the district planning officer, office of the Deputy Commissioner of their Districts by October 20.
