SHILLONG:The high-handedness of Army personnel with regard to parking spaces at various areas in the city has irked the people

This was was noticed at Khlieh Iewduh on Saturday where Army personnel suddenly came with an order to get the cars parked all along the Khlieh Iewduh lane near the Parking Lot removed.

According to a frequent visitor to Iewduh (name withheld on request), these personnel besides ordering the parked cars to be removed also flattened the tyres of about 10 cars.

“They have never done anything like this earlier, without a warning or such, a witness said.

This incident has astonished the people of Iewduh and their behaviour was questioned by the people saying that the job of issuing a summon slip or clearing the congested area rests with the traffic police. “Its surprising to see the Army doing this job as this is usually done by the traffic police”, the witness said while adding what is more surprising is that they who conducted this drive are the ones involved in illegal parking all over the city.

“There are no laws for these high officials, it seems”, he rued.

It may be mentioned that the HANM had recently inspected this parking lot situated at Khlieh Iew where they found piles of wastage which is unpleasant to sight.

The Urban Affairs Department has taken steps to clean up this lot to ensure healthy space for peopel to park their cars.
