Three killed, 16 injured in road mishap
Nagaon: Three persons have been killed and 16 others injured in a road mishap in Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday, police said.
The driver of the bus, carrying pilgrims, hit a tree at Amoni killing two persons on the spot and injuring 17 others. The injured have been admitted to Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital where one of them later succumbed to his injuries. The dead have been identified as Durga Charan, Bibhas Kumar and Shekhar Nath.
The pilgrims, hailing from Golaghat, were returning to their hometown after visiting Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. (PTI)
Ganja seized
Kohima: The Nagaland Excise Department, Narcotic Cell Dimapur, seized around 230 kgs of ganja, worth over Rs 15 Lakh in international market, from Chumukedima check gate near Dimapur and arrested two people in this connection.
Official sources here on Tuesday said that the contraband substance was found concealed in a vehicle and both the accused, hailing from Senapati district in Manipur, were taken into custody in connection with the case.
They have been booked under Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act and their vehicle (Gypsy) was also seized.
The destination of the smuggled contraband was not Dimapur and it was meant to be smuggled into other states of the country, the sources said.
According to source, owing to the Economic Blockade imposed by both the Sardar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) and United Naga Council (UNC) in Manipur, the smugglers might have changed their normal transit route for smuggling. (UNI)
