Ganja seized

Kohima: The Nagaland Excise Department, Narcotic Cell Dimapur, seized around 230 kgs of ganja, worth over Rs 15 Lakh in international market, from Chumukedima check gate near Dimapur and arrested two people in this connection.

Official sources here on Tuesday said that the contraband substance was found concealed in a vehicle and both the accused, hailing from Senapati district in Manipur, were taken into custody in connection with the case.

They have been booked under Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act and their vehicle (Gypsy) was also seized.

The destination of the smuggled contraband was not Dimapur and it was meant to be smuggled into other states of the country, the sources said.

According to source, owing to the Economic Blockade imposed by both the Sardar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) and United Naga Council (UNC) in Manipur, the smugglers might have changed their normal transit route for smuggling. (UNI)
