Ramgopal Maharaj passes away

 SHILLONG: A Monk of the Ramakrishna Order, who had served in the Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong (1953-60), Swami Prameyanandaji Maharaj (also known as Ramgopal Maharaj), one of the Vice-Presidents of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal, passed away at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan Hospital, Kolkata on October 20.

He was 79.

He joined the Order in 1951 at RK Mission, Karimganj.

His last visit to Shillong was on 2010 when he initiated many aspiring disciples and has imparted initiations in the past years during his visit here. He has hundreds of followers from the city who expressed their shock and condolence at the news of his death on Thursday. Many devotees thronged the RK Mission, Shillong throughout the day on Thursday to pay their last obeisance to the departed soul.

On October 9, he was admitted to Seva Pratishthan on account of a marked fall of oxygen level in blood. His body was kept at Belur Math for Darshan by devotees and will be cremated at Belur Math on October 21.
