Swachhta Utsav observed in Nongstoin

 NONGSTOIN: The State Water and Sanitation in collaboration with the District Water and Sanitation Mission on Friday observed the Swachhta Utsav or the Cleanliness Week in which parliamentary secretary of Meghalaya Dr.A.Pariong was the chief guest.

The programme held at the compound of the Deputy Commissioner West Khasi Hills was participated by thousands of students, Sordar of different villages and district heads.

The main objective of observing Swachhata Utsav is to eliminate the practice of open defecation and pigsty toilets, ensuring construction of sanitary household latrines and its regular use, safe disposal of human faeces and maintain food, personal and environmental hygiene.

A painting competition with the theme “Clean Village” was organized on the same day, where 100 students from various schools of participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr.A.Pariong said that the objective of celebrating Swachhata Utsav is to give momentum to Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC).

He also made aware the students as well as village headmen on the importance of cleanliness, where everyone should be responsibles to take some step in his regard.

Pariong also stressed on the need to ban plastic bags which is one of the major problem face by human now a days.

The Swachhta Utsav was followed by a remarkable rally which was led by MLA of Nongstoin H.S.Lyngdoh, Executive Engineer of PHE A.Lyngkhoi other officers and thousands of students and teachers.

With one voice they shouted “Nongstoin need for change” and “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.

The programme also included singing competition.
