SHILLONG: Stressing on the role of small scale industries as an antidote for unemployment, Meghalaya Urban Affairs Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh said these micro industries could open up opportunities for the unemployment youth.
Highlighting this at the workshop on “The role of tiny industries in rural development” at Don Bosco Youth Centre here on Monday, Lyngdoh said the youths of the State should understand the dynamism of micro industries which could ensure employment and development in the State. “The youth should understand the dynamics that is going on in the small scale and cottage industries as they can open up job opportunities for the local youth”, she said.
Meanwhile, resource person VK Desai of Tiny Tech India, Gujarat stressed on the primary needs saying all the primary needs should be in the hand of the common man and not with the industries.
“All production should be produced by small machineries by the people themselves to be self sufficient”, Desai reiterated adding if these basic needs had to be dependant on the industries, then the common man would always face problem, as they would be at the mercy of the big industries to provide for the daily requirements.
Referring to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi as the man who shook the nation with the Khadi Movement, Desai said Gandhi had taught the people to be self reliant by taking up the small and cottage industries
