Rio greets people on Deewali

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday greeted the Hindu community of the state on the occasion of the festival of lights, the Deepawali.

Rio, who is currently in abroad, in a message received here wished that this Deepawali would bring peace, prosperity and complete harmony among all sections of society.

The Hindu community of Nagaland started celebrating the festival since yesterday.

Meanwhile, police and Fire Brigade had been vigilant to prevent and control any untoward incident during the festival. (UNI)

NSCN cadre apprehended

Itanagar: A hardcore NSCN cadre was apprehended by personnel of the 19th Assam Rifles (AR) based at Khonsa in Tirap district along with Arunachal Pradesh Police cadre in a daring operation in Bank Colony here.

According to a delayed AR communiqué here on Wednesday, acting on a tip-off the AR launched a joint operation with Arunachal Pradesh Police and cordoned off the suspected area on the night of October 24.

The column apprehended self styled Sergeant Laitwang Wotey(35), a resident of Longbu village under Lazu Circle and recovered two Chinese grenades and an extortion note and recruitment letters of the organization, the communique said.

The arrested cadre confessed his involvement in extortion and issuing threats to locals and was handed over to Khonsa police station yesterday, the communique added. (PTI)
