Khyndailad beautification project

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: The work for the much-hyped Khyndailad beautification project, initiated by the State Government, will begin shortly.

Informing this here on Thursday, PSG Lyngdoh, commissioner and secretary, PWD, said, “We will planning to start the ground work by next week.”

The project was launched by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma last month.

The project, which includes beautification of Khyndailad and its adjoining areas besides widening of roads in certain stretches of the city, is being taken up at an estimated budget of Rs 16.73 crore.

Initially, the PWD will beautify the first 57-metre stretch of road from Khyndailad junction till the end of the MUDA shopping complex and then the beautification work would carried out on the entire stretch till Umsohsun road and Sadar police station junction in Thana Road.

The PWD will put cobbled footpaths and interlocking tiles in the entire stretch.

The idea behind the project is to make walking an attractive option as no vehicles would be allowed to enter the stretch once the beautification process is completed. No hawkers would be allowed to operate in the entire stretch of the footpaths

The project was scheduled to be launched in September but it got delayed due to the Monsoon.

Once the beautification is done, all the advertisement hoardings would be removed from the buildings and it would be replaced by the digitalized advertisements on the base of the buildings.
