Hazarika’s condition is critical: doctors

Mumbai: Noted Singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika’s condition continues to be critical at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in suburban Andheri, doctors said on Thursday.

Hazarika’s health deteriorated on October 23 after he developed Pneumonia and was shifted to the Intensive Care unit.

”He is on ventilator support and is undergoing dialysis. Over the last few days, his kidneys were not functioning properly and he was not passing adequate urine,” doctors said.

The Music Director was hospitalised in June last after complaining of breathlessness, owing to a chest infection.

Hazarika celebrated his 86th birthday in hospital on September 8.

He has sung in many indian languages, including Bengali, Assamese and Hindi. He is the recipient of Padma Bhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke award. (UNI)

NLFT militants surrender

Agartala: Ten hardcore militants including a woman cadre of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have surrendered before the security forces with ammunitions and some incriminating documents in Kanchanpur area in eastern part of the state.

According to report, the militants were compelled to surrender following factional squabble in the outfit.

They handed over two grenades, two detonators, subscription notice and some amount of Bangladeshi currencies on Wednesday. Police said the militants led by self-styled ‘lieutenant’ Dipakhari Jamatia, had approached Assam Rifles for safe surrender early this week after fleeing away from Bangladesh base camp. (PTI)

Arms, ammo seized from train

Guwahati: A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been seized from a train and an Inspector of Railway Protection Security Force (RPSF) arrested in this connection at the Guwahati Railway Station on Thursday.

On a tip-off, a special patrolling team of the Railway Police seized the arms and ammunitions from the Guwahati-bound Shatabdi Express from Dimapur and arrested an Inspector of the RPSF, Kuljit Singh Sandhu while two other jawans managed to escape, police said.

The seized ammunitions, mostly made in Belgium, Italy and Austria, include 70 rounds of ammunitions of AK-47 and .303 rifles, three nine mm pistols along with 40 rounds of ammunitions and seven mobile sets. Investigations are on and further details are awaited, sources. (PTI)

Nagaland NGOs visit Ireland, UK

Kohima: A delegation representing different NGOs based in Nagaland visited Belfast in Ireland and London from October 15 to 23 last.

A release by General Secretary of Naga Hoho P. Chuba Ozukum here today said the delegation met Ms. Adinno Phizo, president Naga National Council (NNC) and another leader Kevilavor. (UNI)

Miss Nagaland beauty contest next month

Kohima: The Beauty and Aesthetics’ Society of Nagaland (BASN) on Thursday announced that the annual beauty Pageant ‘Miss Nagaland’ would be held at Kohima on the December 6 next, as part of the state’s annual National Hornbill Festival.

In a release here today, the BASN requested all the district organisers to send representatives and contestants for the programme. While the ‘Miss Nagaland, 2011’ would receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000, the 1st and the 2nd Runner-up shall receive cash prizes of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively besides other incentives, the release said.
