PM advisor inspects devp schemes
GUWAHATI: Advisor to prime minister, T K A Nair took stock of various schemes under Multi Sectoral Development Project (MSDP) for minority concentrated districts for the year 2009-10.
During his on-going three-day, Nair toured parts of Nalbari district and stressed on time bound and proper implementation of the schemes meant for development of the minorities and instructed the officials for regular monitoring of the schemes. Nair supervised the construction of additional class rooms at Pilaikhata high school under Kamalpur revenue circle on Thursday , an official release said here on Friday. Interacting with students and teachers, he laid emphasis on creation of proper atmosphere for education and instructed concerned officials to release the second instalment of the estimated cost at the earliest. NF Railways introduces green toilets
GUWAHATI: North East Frontier Railways has inducted zero discharge bio-toilets or green toilets in 16 coaches of Guwahati–Chennai Express.
The toilets have been designed jointly by Indian Railways and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to ensure clean environment on railway tracks and platforms, Railway Chief Public Relations Officer S Hajong said.The toilets have been introduced in the train since October 14 and will be introduced in others in a phased manner.
With green toilets fitted in the coaches there will be no discharge of human waste in platforms or at any place on the route and prevent damage to the train tracks caused by corrosion.(PTI)
Passengers looted
GUWAHATI:Armed dacoits robbed passengers of their cash and valuables on a Guwahati-Siliguri bus near Jajiabari in Nalbari district, police said on Friday.
They said two dacoits had boarded the bus at Guwahati last night and asked the driver to stop before reaching Jajiabari market at about 2200 hours.Three other members of the gang, apparently following the bus in another vehicle, then forced their way in.
They looted the passengers at gun-point, taking away jewellery, cash, mobile phone handsets and other valuables.(PTI)
